The superb form of the Ajo Motorsport Derbi-duo continued in the opening qualifying session of the season with Red Bull Ajo Motorsport –rider Marc Marquez taking pole position for Sunday evening’s season opening race in Qatar. Marquez and Avant Mitsubishi Ajo –rider Sandro Cortese were among the top contenders throughout the session with Marquez eventually securing opening pole of the season by a margin of almost half a second. Cortese, while hitting a bit of traffic on his final push, will start the season from the second row of the grid in 7^th place, completing the strong showing of the team during the season’s opening qualifying session.
MARC MARQUEZ, RED BULL AJO MOTORSPORT:
“Of course it is nice to start the season from pole. We are really happy with the qualifying results, but there is still plenty of work to do. We have some small chattering that we need to cure for the race, so we will work hard with that for tomorrow. Other than that, I feel really good with the bike, so we just need to keep focused and try to make the most of our starting position tomorrow.”
SANDRO CORTESE, AVANT MITSUBISHI AJO:
“Second row start for the race tomorrow is really quite OK. The bike feels good, even if we did have some chattering right at the end of the session today. We will look into that now and analyse the data we have, so we will be ready for the race tomorrow.”
Team Manager Aki Ajo:
”Of course we are very happy with the results today, Marc’s pole and Sandro on the second row is a good showing really. But we do have a lot of work to do as well, so we need to keep our focus and work to find the right set-ups for the race. Now we need to analyse the data we have, and tomorrow we will try a few things in the warm-up to be ready for the race.”
