The pre-season testing continued with positive results for the Finnish Ajo
Motorsport team and its rider duo of Spanish Red Bull Ajo Motorsport rider
Marc Marquez and German Avant Mitsubishi Ajo rider Sandro Cortese. While it
was a case of rain and mixed conditions in the previous tests, the final
IRTA test session held at the Jerez circuit during the past three days
proved to be a success also weather wise, as the teams enjoyed three days of
relatively good weather.
As in the previous test, it was the Red Bull Ajo Motorsport rider Marquez
who kept the fastest pace in the tests, making a new circuit best lap with
his second day time of 1:46,492, beating the lap record and the pole
position record with a comfortable margin. Marquez was able to keep a
steadily fast pace during the tests, and finished early on the final day
after a successful test program. Avant Mitsubishi Ajo rider Cortese worked
just as successfully with his Derbi RSA, setting a new personal Jerez record
time of 1:47,337 on the final day, taking 4th fastest time of the tests
overall in the process. Like Marquez, also Cortese finished the final day
early after a successful test program.
MARC MARQUEZ, RED BULL AJO MOTORSPORT:
"I'm happy with the work we've done. We have worked really hard, testing
many different things. Also we did some really good lap times, so we are
very happy with how the things have gone so far. But so far this has only
been testing, now its time to go racing."
SANDRO CORTESE, AVANT MITSUBISHI AJO:
"We had a really good test here, the weather played to our hands as well,
and we did a lot of work. I did my personal best time here on the final day,
and things are looking quite good! OK this is only testing, so we need to
keep focused and work hard for the races."
Team Manager Aki Ajo: "I'm really happy with the way things have gone,
specially this final test when we had good weather and all. We tested many
things, and I am very happy with both Sandro and Marc, they've worked hard,
and done consistent lap times. Even on the final day when we did a race
simulation they both did very good lap times throughout. But, we need to
keep our focus as we've not done a single race yet. We still have all the
races of the season ahead of us."
