The Derbi-riding Ajo Motorsport duo of Spanish Red Bull Ajo Motorsport rider Marc Marquez and German Avant Mitsubishi Ajo rider Sandro Cortese were again in superb form in today’s Grand Prix at Assen in the Netherlands. Pole starter Marquez took a strong start and placed himself at the front. Even if he did come under some pressure from the eventual second place finisher Terol throughout the race, Marquez held his cool and held the top spot all through the race taking his third victory in three consecutive races. After the start Cortese was quick to rise to fifth place, pulling away from the following group and taking fifth place at the chequered flag.
The MotoGP-series continues in Barcelona the coming weekend for the season’s seventh race weekend with Marquez and Cortese holding 3rd and 8th places in the Championship points, lead by Nicolas Terol.
MARC MARQUEZ, RED BULL AJO MOTORSPORT:
“In the practice and qualifying I had a really good feeling with the bike, so I started the race with the plan to push from the start. Terol was there all the time, and we were doing good lap times. In the end there was one slower rider that I got past quickly and Terol didn’t get past so quick. Anyway, we need to keep concentrated and already work hard for the next race.”
SANDRO CORTESE, AVANT MITSUBISHI AJO:
“Fifth here is really OK, even if I’m not maybe fully satisfied with that. But we are going to the right direction, and the next race is already next weekend. So we just need to keep our focus and work hard again to take another step forward.”
TEAM MANAGER AKI AJO:
”Marc did a great job again today, and Sandro had a good, solid weekend after the Silverstone one, so we can be satisfied with this weekend in many ways. But we have to remember that the next race in Barcelona within a week is not going to be easy in any way. It’s Marc’s home race, and the other Spaniards will for sure get some extra energy there as well. For the Championship its important to get steady good points, you can’t win them all, and then its important to get what you can safely get.”
